| Pioneer and Mission IS Help the Clink Charity in the UK |

January 2015 - The Clink Charity is unquestionably unique. Based in the UK, it operates fine dining restaurants that are open to the public yet located within working prisons, and manned entirely by prisoners working as chefs, waiters, receptionists and cleaners who receive accredited training in preparation for their release.
The idea behind the Clink Restaurant is straightforward; to reduce re-offending rates by providing recognised training in a true-to-life environment and assist ex-offenders to find work within the wider hospitality industry. It was the brainchild of Chef Alberto Cristi who developed the concept and, backed by the Clink Charity and Her Majesty's Prison Service, the first restaurant opened at HMP High Down, Surrey in May 2009 with the full support of then governor Peter Dawson. It was immediately successful in proving itself, with a dramatic fall in the re-offending rates for prisoners who had completed the training. The average re-offending rates for male prisoners in the UK in the first year after release is close to 50%, whilst the figure for those who have worked within the Clink are now less than 10%... |
